2022.01.28 19:07 somethingicanspell The Best Third Basemen outside the Hall

Should be in the hall:
Scott Rolen - I’m not going to get too much into why Rolen should be in the HOF because it pretty clear he’s going to be and I’m preaching to the choir but yes obviously Scott Rolen with 70 WAR, a 122 OPS+ and 3rd most fielding runs ever for a 3B should be a HOFer
Buddy Bell - Bell with Rolen is the other obvious HOFer in my book. He has the 4th most fielding runs for a 3B and 6 golden gloves. When metrics and awards agree I think we can safely assume that Bell was a generational great at 3B. He also was a net positive at the plate with a 109 OPS+ and had a long career. 66 WAR, 32.6 WAA are both above hall average. A clear HOFer in my opinion
Ken Boyer - Boyer has the awards (5 Gold Gloves, 1 MVP, 11 all stars). Boyer has the metrics (62.8 and 31.5 WAA). He has the OPS+ (116). He even has the BA and HR. He even got 2000 hits and 1000 RBIS with a respectable 287 BA. I have no idea how Boyer didn’t get into the hall. I’d take Bell over Boyer as I like a generational defensive great with decent hitting over a very good hitter who was also a good fielder although I think he’s a clear HOFer I’m truly baffled that the hall passed over him given his very good traditional case.
(Clear to Borderline Line)
Robin Ventura - I like Robin Ventura a lot. Ventura was a generational great on the field. He wasn’t Brooks Robinson but he won 6 gold gloves and got 155 fielding runs thats 6th best of all time for 3B. So Ventura deserve to be in the Hall of Fielding. He also has a 114 OPS+ with just over 8000 PA. A top 10 defensive 3B on the bag whose also a significant net positive on the plate is a HOFer in my mind.
Stan Hack - I went back and forth on Hack before deciding that Hack should be the underrepresented 3B from the pre-integration era rather than the slew of bad options they did pick. Hack has a 119 OPS+ which is very good for a pre-integration 3B. He also got to 8509 PA which is good enough for me and harder to do with the shorter seasons. Now Hack has a problem I will go into more depth in with Cey which is that he was not a HOF hitter by the standards of other positions while also not being a great fielder. However I am going to say yes to Hack and no to Cey for three reasons
A. Representation - There’s just not as many good 3B who could hit like Hack prior to integration so he stands out more
B. Slightly better longevity - He has 150 extra PA on shortened seasons which to me count as an extra 400 or 500 for that reason making him a little bit longer lived.
C. He’s a slightly better hitter all in 55.9 oWAR WAR>50.7 oWAR
David Wright - Wright is an interesting case. From 2005 to 2013 Wright was the 2nd Best 3B in baseball behind Miguel Cabrera in fWAR. Yes that includes A-Rod. His 46.4 WAR in 9 years is pretty clearly a very good HOF peak. In fact over those 9 years Wright ranked 4th in fWAR among all position players. The problem is that was pretty much his entire career. Thus the question becomes does a HOFer get to be a HOFer solely by being one of the ten best players in baseball over a ten year stretch. I’m going to argue yes but I think that a difference of opinion is reasonable here.
Graig Nettles - I debated lumping in Nettles with Bando and Evans but I don’t really think you can do that in Nettles case. Yes his bat I think is somewhat overvalued by WAR but that still leaves him as a great fielder with an above average if not exceptional bat. His 67 WAR and 32.8 WAA, 110 OPS+ and 140 fielding runs are pretty hard to dismiss.

Should not be in the hall but are close:

Darrell Evans/Sal Bando - Here I think I’m going to attract a lot of disagreement from sabermetric fans. Both of these players were competent but not extraordinary fielders. There case is going to have to come from having a significantly above average bat. They both essentially walked their way into HOF contention. Their BA are not great (.248 and .252) but they have OBP that elevate them just about to that 60 WAR line. I don’t think a guy very much on the borderline gets in the hall primarily off their ability to walk. This argument doesn’t apply to a guy like Grich who is borderline before adding in his extraordinary ability to walk but for guys who I think don’t really have much of a case before walking
I believe this for two reasons
A. WAR and OBP are both context neutral stats. In a context neutral situation there is never a difference between a single and a walk but theres a rather large difference when there is a RISP. Above average hitters (which most HOFers are) are generally going to be placed in situations where there is more likely going to be RISP then average meaning that the context dependent value of a single and context neutral value of a walk will both by moderately systematically overvalued in great hitters. If you don’t believe this compare the RE24 and the batting runs of any great hitter
B. Hitting for contact is aesthetically more pleasing and fun for fans to watch and there is a bit of an X factor that comes into play when people are on the borderline. Value being equal I think the single still has slightly more “fame” quality than the walk.
So for me they are a no.
Ron Cey - Cey to me is Hall of Very Good but its a hard one. As a fielder Cey was nothing special, not a liability, but didn’t produce much value. Where Cey’s case comes from is that he hit very well for a 3B. My problem with that is that Cey did not hit close to a HOF level without adjusting for the fact that he’s a 3B. In order for me to buy the positional adjustment for defensive position I want to see that you actually can do something that the vast majority of better hitting 1B can’t do which is play 3B well. I’m going to say no to Cey for that reason.
Heine Groh - Groh would have been the more interesting sabermetric alternative to Pie Taynor. His 118 OPS+ is very good for a pre-integration 3B and he wasn’t a bad fielder. Unfortunately Groh’s career is a little too short. 7040 PA is nearing the line of disqualifying and he would would need something really special to stand out at a number that low and I don’t think Groh has that.
Honorable Mention:
Toby Harrah - 51.7 WAR is pretty low and I don’t think there’s much to make me disagree with that number.

Isabela kills houseplants. She has the theoretical knowledge of what they need like sunlight, water, fertiliser etc. but since she's always sustained fully grown plants with magic she doesn't really know how to care for them from seeds.

2022.01.28 19:07 aahymsaa Dizziness triggers ear fullness/pain

Last week and again today while at vestibular rehab, I noticed that the dizzier I got with the exercises, the more my ears started to feel full/pressure, along with pain. I had a bit of high-pitched ringing for a few seconds at a time, as well. Two hours after I left my appointment, my ears are still full and hurting. I had felt really good all week, before going into my VR appointment today. Has anyone else noticed ear changes AFTER dizziness really gets ramped up?

5600XT issues after 2 years and deciding what to do. How bad would the performance hit be with a RX6600 on a B450 motherboard? My 5600XT drivers crashed 2 weeks ago and I had to do a recovery install back to the October 21 drivers. I have ~5-8 FPS drop and ghosting if I don’t shut off adaptive sync in the Adrenaline settings.
Thinking of replacing with a RX6600 for my 1440p gaming. I have logged over 1500 hours of 1440p gaming on my rig since February 2020. Specs: Ryzen 2700x, 32GB DDR4-3200, Asus ROG Strix B450i motherboard, Sapphire Pulse 5600XT, 1TB NVMe, (2) 2TB hard drives, InWin A1 Plus with 650w gold PSU.

It hits too close to home. I genuinely feel pain when we talk about it and having some random person try and justify it is too much for me rn. It’s horrifying to know what happened and still see people trying to deny it or claim that it shouldn’t be taken as seriously because “oh tribes killed eachother” as if that isn’t completely different from colonizers coming and killing us and stripping children of their culture
